Where is your office located?
We meet with clients online, so we are wherever you need! That’s one of the great things about online therapy.
What times are you available?
How long are your sessions?
With whom do you work best?
With what types of problems do you work?
What happens in a typical session?
You will get to talk about all of the thoughts, feelings, and situations that keep you from living your best life or cause you pain.
This is a freeing experience – one where you will be met with unconditional support and acceptance. It may be the first time in your life you don’t feel judged or looked down on.
We will listen and provide insight into your situation… where we see unhealthy patterns forming in your life and relationships.
Together, we will set goals for how you’d like your life to be better.
We’ll also give you tools to help you cope with overwhelming thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
How do I schedule an appointment?
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please do so at least 48 hours in advance of your scheduled session time to avoid being charged.
You can cancel your appointment by phone or email, but you will be charged the full session rate if you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice.
How do I make payments?
You can pay with cash, check, or credit card.
We use a secure online portal that can take single card payments. You also can store your card number so that it does not have to be entered manually each time.
Do you take insurance?
Here are some other things to know about reimbursement…
- Depending on your insurance, we might be considered an “out-of-network provider.” Please speak to your carrier about reimbursement options.
- Upon request, we can issue you a “Superbill” to file with your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Here are some things to know in general about using insurance to pay for therapy…
- Insurance companies can be very limiting because they tell you whom you can see and how long you can see them.
- Insurance companies also require a mental health diagnosis, which becomes part of your medical record.
Insurance companies often pay therapists less than half of the going rate.
What type of therapy do you use?
We have many treatment options, depending on your problem/issue and the approach that will best help you reach your goals.
All our treatments are evidence-based, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.
We also offer faith-based Christian counseling or psychotherapy that involves spiritual and/or religious components. This type of counseling is likely to be of interest to people for whom spirituality or religion plays a major role in their lives – those who lean into their faith-based values to help them make decisions, understand suffering, set priorities, and create purpose and meaning their lives.
How do you describe yourself as a therapist?
Our work comes from the perspective that we heal in relationship – to ourselves and others.
We also believe that therapy is best when approached holistically – when every aspect of your being is considered part of the healing process.
Do I have to lie on a couch during therapy?
No… but you can if you want. If you start falling asleep, we will ask you to sit up.
I don’t want to cry. Will you make me?
We don’t force anyone to cry. However, it is common for tears to come up when talking about difficult things.
Tears are a release of cortisol, which is our stress hormone. If you happen to cry, you can think of it as releasing some of the stress you’ve been carrying around.
Do you meet with Chicago White Sox fans for therapy?
Edwin was blessed to be the Chicago Cubs Chaplain for 14 seasons, so he’s a diehard fan.
With that in mind, yes, we can still work together if you’re a White Sox fan. However, you will not be allowed to wear any White Sox gear when meeting with your therapist… that would be a total distraction! LOL
